Volunteers are invaluable to the Cypress Basin Hospice program. They provide both practical assistance and compassionate care to our patients and family members. Volunteers may lend their time and talents in several different capacities.
First of all, volunteers may serve in direct patient and family assistance. These services include, but are not limited to the following: Sitting with patients, translating, making phone calls, and running errands. Volunteers interested in direct patient and family assistance must complete a twenty hour volunteer training course. The training is offered in a formal class room format as well as through a self-paced home based approach.
Volunteers may also choose to serve in any number of our non-patient care efforts. These services include, but are not limited to the following: Assisting as office help, participating in fundraising events, and representing Cypress Basin Hospice at health fairs and other community events. It is not necessary for indirect non-patient volunteers to complete the 20 hour training; a two hour course will provide the orientation needed.
Training - Volunteer Training classes are held several times each year, primarily at the offices of Cypress Basin Hospice located at 207 West Morgan Street in Mount Pleasant, Texas. Volunteer training is also offered throughout the service area of Cypress Basin Hospice when helpful to those interested in becoming hospice volunteers.
The twenty hour training is required for all volunteers who will be assisting patients and families in their homes and/or nursing homes. Attendance at all sessions is required but make up sessions can also be scheduled.
